Webinar shares results from BEPOP wave 2

AGE Group members Professor Miles Witham and Dr Chris Hurst contributed to a successful BEPOP webinar on the 16th of October 2025. The Benchmarking Exercise Programme for Older People (BEPOP) is a national quality improvement and benchmarking programme to improve delivery of exercise training for older people with sarcopenia or frailty, hosted by NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre in collaboration with the British Geriatrics Society and AGILE (part of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy).

Over 90 attendees from physiotherapy services from across the UK joined together to hear the results from wave 2 of BEPOP data collection, and to share the changes that they have made to their services as a result of feedback from the BEPOP programme. Attendees had the opportunity to put forward ideas for further areas of analysis in future waves of BEPOP, and to share their ideas for how we can all work together to further improve delivery of strength training for older people.

Professor Miles Witham, who co-led the event with Dr Rhian Milton-Cole, chair of AGILE, said “The growing interest in the BEPOP quality improvement programme is really heartening and speaks to the interest in sarcopenia and frailty within the physiotherapy community. As with our previous webinars, the event showcased fantastic work and real innovation in service design from across the UK.”

“It is clear from our wave 2 BEPOP results that the quality of exercise delivery and sarcopenia measurement are improving across the UK, which is testament to the efforts of all our physiotherapy teams. We are looking forward to seeing the data from the 42 services who are now taking part in wave 3 of BEPOP, and we are planning wave 4 to start in mid 2026, so come and join us at www.bepop.org.uk

The webinar can be accessed via the AGILE YouTube channel.
