About Freya

Freya completed a BA in Sociology and an MA in Social Research at the University of York before joining the North East England Chamber of Commerce's policy team. There, her work researching health disparities in the region led to an interest in tackling health inequalities, particularly for people living with multiple long-term conditions like herself.

About the Project

Freya's project is a qualitative study investigating patient perceptions of hospital care quality for people living with multiple long-term conditions, which includes a scoping review, one-to-one qualitative interviews, and secondary analysis of Mass Observation Project data. Her paper, ‘Perceptions of hospital care quality according to people living with multiple long‐term conditions: A scoping review’, has been published in Health Expectations.

Why a PhD with AGE?

“I’m doing a PhD because I love research - particularly when it comes to new discoveries and amplifying the voices of marginalised groups. Newcastle University is a world-class institution here in my home region of the North East, and the AGE Group is such a supportive team dedicated to improving lives. In the future, I hope to continue advocating for people with multiple long-term conditions while pursuing a career in archives and genealogical research.”
